Climate in Lošinj: best time to visit, weather by month, temperature

Lošinj is a climatically favourable island. Thanks to its more than 2,600 hours of sunshine a year, it is a popular seaside tourist destination among the Adriatic islands. Its average summer temperature of 24 degrees, combined with an average humidity of 70 per cent and an average winter temperature of 7 degrees, means that the climate is always mild and the days always pleasant. These climatic conditions have caused evergreen vegetation to flourish, with myrtle, holm oak and laurel trees adorning much of the island.

During the summer months, the average sea temperature is 23 degrees, while the winds that blow are mostly bora, sirocco and mistral from the north. They provide much-needed relief during the hot summer afternoons. In winter, on the other hand, apart from a few days of intense cold that usually arrive in February, temperatures remain pleasant, but it is by far the wettest season.

The tourist history of the island of Lošinj has something to do with its climate: back in 1885, it is said that Dr Conrad Clar arrived on the island with his sick son, who recovered after only three weeks. This gave Mali Lošinj and Veli Lošinj a public image as destinations with a climate suitable for the treatment of respiratory diseases. For this reason, Mali Lošinj and Veli Lošinj were named ‘towns of health‘ in 1892, and this is how the tourist development of the island began.
